The Frill Shark has become known now as a living fossil which has been found near Japan saying to predate all the way up to 18 million years ago. The main reason fro this statement is it’s ancestors by studies predate further than 18 million years ago so it truly is a living fossil.
The frill shark usually lives at major depths up to 600 metres so seeing one is very unusual, check out this footage of one of the sharks discovered..
